Influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested by U.S. federal marshals in Miami on Saturday following a British extradition request over new charges of rape and sex trafficking.
British prosecutors have charged the brothers with a total of 59 offences linked to alleged crimes committed between 2010 and 2017. Andrew Tate faces 42 charges, including rape, trafficking for sexual exploitation, assault and offences involving indecent images of a child, while Tristan Tate faces 17 charges, including rape, sexual assault and sex trafficking.
The arrests were made after British authorities sought their extradition to face trial in the United Kingdom.
The Tate brothers, who hold dual British and U.S. citizenship, have denied all the allegations against them. Their lawyer described the latest case as politically motivated and said the brothers would contest the extradition request in a U.S. court.
The pair have been at the centre of multiple criminal investigations in recent years. They have also faced separate legal proceedings in Romania over allegations of human trafficking, rape and forming an organised criminal group, accusations they have consistently denied.
The latest arrest marks another significant development in the long-running legal battles surrounding the controversial social media personalities as U.S. courts begin considering the UK's extradition request.
