Police in Lyantonde District have arrested a 13-year-old TikTok user over allegations of publishing content that incited violence and promoted sectarianism on the social media platform.
According to police, the minor was taken into custody after investigators linked the account to videos and posts alleged to have encouraged violence and spread messages capable of fueling divisions among communities. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged offences.
Police warned that social media users, regardless of age, are expected to use digital platforms responsibly and in accordance with the law, adding that online content that promotes violence or hatred will be investigated.
The arrest has drawn attention to the growing use of social media by young people and renewed debate over online safety, digital responsibility and the need for parents and guardians to monitor children's internet activity.
Authorities said the case remains under investigation and that appropriate legal procedures will be followed.
