R. Kelly, 58, reportedly collapsed inside his North Carolina prison cell after what his legal team is calling a potentially intentional overdose.
According to court documents:
- He was placed in solitary confinement on June 10.
- On June 12, prison staff allegedly gave him an unusually high dose of medication.
- By June 13, he had fainted, lost vision, and was rushed to Duke University Hospital.
Doctors found blood clots in his legs and lungs, but despite recommendations for surgery, prison officials allegedly pulled him from the hospital within an hour and placed him back into solitary.
Kelly’s lawyer claims the overdose was deliberate, accusing prison staff of giving him medication far above a safe dosage. A recent motion also suggests there may be a plot to harm him, citing testimony from another inmate and even alleged ties to white supremacist groups.
Kelly’s team has been pleading for home confinement, citing threats to his life, unsanitary cell conditions (including spider infestations 🕷️), and fear of poisoning.
As of now, R. Kelly remains in solitary confinement, in deteriorating health, while awaiting a court ruling on his possible transfer.
