Malawian digital creator Kelvin Gumbi, popularly known as Nyali Muzik, was among over 200 leading African influencers invited to the inaugural African Social Media Influencers Summit (ASMIS 2026) held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on May 7–8, 2026. The summit, hosted at Ethiopian Skylight Hotel and the Adwa Museum, brought together content creators from across the continent under the theme “Creating Impact for a Better Africa.” The purpose of ASMIS 2026 was to counter distorted global narratives about Africa that cost the continent over $4.2 billion annually. Organizers sought to equip creators with tools for authentic storytelling, content monetization, and sustainable career growth while supporting the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Invitation to the summit was extended to digital creators who demonstrate the ability to shape public opinion, promote African culture, and drive positive narratives through their platforms. Kelvin Gumbi gained access to panel discussions, workshops, cultural tours, and direct networking with brand representatives and investors. During the summit, he interacted with some of Africa’s most prominent influencers, including Botswana’s William Last KRM (29.8 million TikTok followers), South Sudan’s Raya Rayan, Ethiopia’s Obsa Abdissa (437,200 TikTok followers), Uganda’s Simpo Gladys and Nyako Nyako, and Ugandan creator CB Talker. The experience positioned Gumbi among a growing community of African digital leaders committed to reshaping how the continent is seen globally.
