Lawyers for the Zambian government have asked the Lungu family to allow identification of former President Edgar Lungu’s body, currently at a South African funeral parlour. In a letter dated July 29, 2025, VFV Attorneys proposed the process be done before Friday, August 1.
This comes amid growing public doubt over whether Lungu is truly dead. The government warned that refusal to grant access would force them to seek a court order. Lungu died on June 5, 2025, but a dispute with his family has delayed burial.
