President Donald Trump has sued the BBC, demanding up to $10 billion in damages over what he claims was the misleading editing of his January 6, 2021 speech in Washington, delivered shortly before the US Capitol riot.
Trump alleges the broadcaster selectively edited his remarks to falsely suggest he incited violence, while omitting parts where he called for peaceful protest. He argues the edit damaged his reputation and misled audiences worldwide.
The BBC has previously defended its editorial decisions. The lawsuit intensifies debate over media responsibility, free speech, and coverage of one of the most divisive moments in modern U.S. history.
