Prayers flooded in Rwanda as uncertainty gripped the nation over the health of President Paul Kagame, who has reportedly been undergoing medical treatment in Europe for over two weeks. With no official communication until yesterday, June 23rd, 2025, speculation mounted — some reports placing him in Germany, others in Belgium, while social media buzzed with unverified claims, including fears of the worst.
The silence was finally broken when the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) issued a formal statement confirming that President Kagame is indeed facing a serious health crisis.
“President Paul Kagame is currently facing a serious health crisis. We confirm that recent reports regarding his condition are accurate. The President’s condition is very unstable at this time, and he remains under intensive medical care by a specialized team,” the statement read.
The RDF urged Rwandans and friends of Rwanda to remain calm, united, and prayerful during this delicate period. They reassured the public that all state institutions remain functional, and that the RDF is fully committed to maintaining national peace and stability.
“We call on all Rwandans and friends of Rwanda to lift up our Head of State in their prayers during this critical period. We will continue to provide official updates as appropriate.”
Before his departure, in one of his last public reflections, President Kagame revisited his personal journey — from a refugee boy studying under trees to leading a nation. He emphasized the value of education, sacrifice, and resilience, words that now carry even deeper meaning as the country hopes for his recovery.
