Mpumalanga police have activated its 72-hour plan to apprehend the killers of police commander Piet Pretorius.
He was shot multiple times by unknown gunmen on Thursday.
The 59-year-old head of the Vehicle Identification Unit in Ermelo was attacked in his official vehicle.
The gunmen are said to have fled the scene in a white sedan.
A team of experts has been assembled to find the killers.
