The body of Malawi’s veep, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima has been laid to final resting place this afternoon in his home village of Nsipe in Ntcheu.
The body has been laid to rest five days after his demise in a tragic plane accident that claimed the lives of other 8 passengers.
Present at the burial ceremony was the President Dr. Chakwera, former presidents, the family of Chilima, Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani V and Roman Catholic bishops among many other political, traditional and religious figureheads.
In a sad development related, 4 people are dead and 12 others are receiving treatment at Ntcheu District Hospital following an accident.
The incident happened when hundreds of people flooded the main road(M1) to have a glimpse of late SKC’s body passing through in a convoy. It happened that the road was broked with stones which made one of the vehicles to lose control, hitting some of the spectators in the process.
The atmosphere in Malawi has been intense following the demise of late veep SKC along with 8 others in the tragic accident. Instances of unruly behaviour towards MCP’s government officials have been occurring in many funerals ceremony of the plane crash victims.
In response, UTM through their spokesperson and Honorable Patricia Kaliyati urged it’s supporters and other citizens to be calm and exercise peace and solidarity as the nation is mourning and honouring the life of late veep, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima.
Dr. SKC was born in Blantyre, at Queen’s Elizabeth Hospital on the 12th February, 1973. His primary education was at Dharap Primary now Namiwawa. SKC’s secondary journey happened in the corridors of Mtendere Secondary in Dedza while his tertiary education journey was in the corridors of Chancellor College.
He has worked at Airtel Malawi before joining politics in 2014 as former president Peter Mutharika’s vice President. Currently, he was also serving as the Veep of President Chakwera under the Tonse Alliance government and also was the founder and President of United Transformation Party (UTM).
