Edgar Lungu to Be Laid to Rest in South Africa Tomorrow – No Body Viewing Allowed
After weeks of silent tension between the Zambian government and the Lungu family, the family has won the final say: former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu will be buried in South Africa.
Lungu, who passed away earlier this month, will be laid to rest tomorrow — Wednesday, June 25, 2025 — in Johannesburg. A Requiem Mass will be held at 10:00AM at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Hillbrow, led by Archbishop Alick Banda of Lusaka.
Security? Tight. No large bags. Entry by accreditation only.
And for those hoping for a final goodbye — sorry. There will be no body viewing.
The program confirms attendance of high-profile VIPs, though their names remain under wraps for now.
After the church service, the private burial will take place around 13:30 hours, in a strictly controlled procession.
A final farewell — away from home, but not away from attention.
