The Eastern Region Police Headquarters has organised a football match at Chinkwezule Ground in Machinga to raise awareness on the need to conserve and re-plant trees that have been depleted in Zomba and Machinga. The teams have collaborated with communities in Chinkwezule village under Traditional Authority Nkula of Machinga and Sub-Traditional Authority Nkapita of Zomba in an attempt to save Zomba Mountain and Zomba-Malosa Forest Reserve. The two teams, Machinga-based Akwao FC and Eastern Region Police FC, are currently playing. Before the match, Traditional Authority Nkula and Sub-Traditional Authority Mtumbwinda planted eleven trees to represent solidarity between the two districts.

There is a need to take the newly released National Aids Commission (NAC) report seriously as it has worrisome information in regards to the most victims of Human Infection Virus (HIV) infection.According to the report, girls and young women of ages between 15-24 are the most victims of new infections as these are the most targeted by old men. Out 100, 22 girls and young women gets infected while out 100, 41 boys and men are living with HIV/AIDS but are unaware. Old Mutual Blantyre Foundation Trust has come to the rescue of the flood victims in Nkhotakota as it has donated medical supplies to Nkhotakota’s District Council to ease the suffering of that the survivors are facing medically.
