Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to his illustrious career with Portugal after more than two decades. The 41-year-old forward made the announcement on Thursday, saying he intends to step away from the national team after the November international break. Ronaldo, who made his Portugal debut in 2003, leaves the national team as its all-time leading scorer, with 146 goals in 234 appearances. He also holds the record for the most international appearances in men's football. During his international career, Ronaldo captained Portugal to the 2016 European Championship title and two UEFA Nations League trophies. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner also made history by becoming the first player to score at six different FIFA World Cup tournaments. His retirement marks the end of one of the most remarkable international careers in football history. Reuters +1
