A newlywed man from Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district has fallen victim to a brutal attack allegedly carried out by his in-laws, just days after he married his long-time partner against her family’s wishes.
According to local reports, the couple had been in a relationship for years before deciding to tie the knot despite strong opposition from the woman’s relatives. The marriage, which took place recently, is believed to have triggered anger within her family, culminating in a violent confrontation.
The man sustained injuries in the attack and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have since registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Authorities say further details will emerge as the probe continues, while the incident has once again sparked debate over honour-based violence and the risks faced by couples who marry against family consent in parts of the country.
