He’s been dominating charts, selling out shows, and proving why he’s Ghana’s biggest musical export. But behind all the glitz and "Iron Boy" bravado is a story that’s been weighing heavily on Black Sherif’s chest—and it involves his poor mother's silent sighs. In a very candid interview on Joy FM’s Personality Profile that hit the airwaves on April 30, the "Kwaku the Traveller" hitmaker finally came clean about ghosting his university education like a secret agent on a mission. Speaking with host Kofi Hayford, Blacko, whose real name is Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, admitted that he enrolled at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) back in 2022. But when the music started taking off, he pulled a disappearing act so smooth it would make a Navy SEAL jealous. “You know when ninjas in movies want to disappear, they drop a smoke bomb? I feel like that is how I covered that,” he confessedju. And the most shocking part? There was no big family meeting, no tearful goodbye. According to Blacko, the conversation about leaving school was practically non-existent. "There wasn't really a conversation about dropping out," he revealed, adding that the family sort of just... understood. But while they understood, that doesn’t mean they were happy about it. The rapper got real about the one person whose opinion matters most: his mum. He revealed that the woman who raised him has never stopped holding out hope for his return to the classroom. “My mum won’t tell you straight, but they kind of did,” he said, referring to her quiet disappointment. “Even up until today, she wants me to go back, and I know I will.” So, what’s the reason? Is he just trying to please his mom? Nope. Black Sherif insists he isn’t just going back to collect a certificate to hang on the wall. He says the universe has given him “real-life reasons” to hit the books again. “I have reasons that are so close to me, very personal reasons to go back to school to actually learn,” he teased, leaving fans on the edge of their seats wondering what those personal reasons actually are. We guess even international superstars can’t ignore the call of Mama. Watch this space, people—Blacko in a lecture hall might just be the comeback story of 2026.
