Arsenal’s Thomas Partey Charged with Rape

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has officially been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police in the UK has confirmed. The charges are linked to three separate women and relate to alleged incidents that took place between October 2021 and July 2022.

The Ghanaian international, who recently left Arsenal following the expiry of his contract, is expected to appear in court in October 2025. The allegations include:

  • Two counts of rape involving a woman in October 2021
  • Three counts of rape involving a different woman in December 2021
  • One count of sexual assault involving a third woman in July 2022

Partey, 31, was arrested back in 2022 in connection with the investigations but was not charged at the time. He continued to play for Arsenal throughout the 2022–2024 seasons.

The news has sparked major public debate, with many fans and activists questioning why he remained active in top-flight football while under investigation. Others have raised concerns about the timing of the charges, which came shortly after his exit from Arsenal.

As of now, Partey denies all charges and maintains his innocence. A trial is likely to follow next year, where more evidence and testimonies will be presented.
