Former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped a second assassination attempt outside the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, after the Secret Service shot at a man armed with an AK-47. Authorities are treating the case as a serious attempt on Trump’s life.
The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, allegedly approached the club with a rifle, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera. He aimed the weapon through a chain-link fence, possibly targeting Trump, when agents fired at him. Routh fled in a black Nissan but was quickly arrested.
Trump was on the fifth hole of the golf course when the gunshots rang out, and his security detail rushed him to safety inside the clubhouse. This marks the second attempt on Trump’s life in the past two months.
Law enforcement found the rifle hidden in bushes and confirmed that four shots were fired during the confrontation. Trump made sure everyone was safe inside the clubhouse and praised his security team for their quick response.
The Secret Service, in partnership with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the incident and confirmed that Trump was unharmed. The White House acknowledged the event, with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris being briefed and relieved that Trump is safe. They will continue to receive updates as the investigation continues.
