PSQUARE IN CONFLICT: Peter Okoye Confronts Paul Over Discrediting Remarks

Peter Okoye, one half of the celebrated Nigerian music duo P-SQUARE, has publicly addressed his ongoing feud with his twin brother and former bandmate, Paul Okoye. In an open letter, Peter expressed deep frustration over Paul’s repeated attempts to discredit his contributions to the group, which they co-founded and built together into one of Africa’s most successful musical acts.

Peter accused Paul of using interviews to claim credit for 99% of P-SQUARE’s work, including songwriting and singing, while downplaying Peter’s role. He specifically mentioned Paul’s dismissal of their collaboration with American rapper T.I. on the song “EjeaJo,” which Peter wrote, labeling it a failure based on YouTube views. Peter countered this by listing several other hits he contributed to, questioning whether they were also considered failures.

Peter lamented that while he has always referred to their achievements using “we” and “us,” Paul consistently speaks in terms of “I” and “me,” diminishing Peter’s contributions. He emphasized that P-SQUARE’s success was a result of their combined efforts, not individual talent. According to Peter, the group’s unique blend of skills and unity was what made them special to their fans.

Peter also accused Paul of seeking to marginalize him by aligning with their brother Jude, further straining their relationship. He criticized Paul for trying to turn fans against him by portraying him as jealous and for disrespecting his family and ideas. Despite the public fallout, Peter expressed a desire to focus on his solo music career and asked to be allowed to do so in peace.

The letter ends with Peter wishing his brother well but also expressing disappointment in how their once-united front has become a source of public discord. Peter hinted at addressing an issue with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) later, leaving fans curious about what’s to come.

The ongoing feud between the Okoye brothers has saddened many fans who fondly remember P-SQUARE as one of Africa’s most iconic music groups.
