A 38-year-old father, who resides in Mtandire township in Lilongwe, is in custody at Lingadzi Police Station for allegedly defiling and impregnating his 17-year-old daughter as part of a ritual to acquire wealth.
Initially, in July 2023, the suspect told his wife about his willingness to sacrifice their own child for financial gain, a thing that was taken as a joke by the wife.Again in August 2023, the husband informed his wife that he had gone to Mozambique for money-making rituals. In Mozambique, a witch doctor gave him a charm, which he said for it to function, the suspect must either kill or sleep with his child.
It is further alleged that the suspect chose to sleep with his daughter, a choice that was highly protested by both his wife and the child. After seeing that things had gone sour, the suspect went back to Mozambique to meet the witch doctor in order to rescind his decision, but he was threatened that he could go mad if he did not follow the earlier instructions.
Later, when the wife was informed about the repercussion, she convinced her daughter to sleep with her father.The same August 2023, the father of four started sleeping with his 16-year-old biological daughter.It is reported that he did this twice before his daughter became pregnant.
Dqespite being pregnant by his father, in November 2023, the victim fell in love with someone who later married her but was blank about his wife’s pregnancy.
In May this year, the victim gave birth, which made her husband suspicious and when quizzed, she narrated the ordeal to the husband who became jealous of his father-in-law.
The furious husband ordered his wife never to step foot in his father’s house, but when he knew that his orders were not being honored, he took the matter to Bingu Nation Stadium police unit, which swiftly arrested the father.However, upon realizing that the victim is a minor, police again launched a manhunt for the husband to the victim, who is still at large, to face the full weight of the law for marrying and sleeping with an underage girl, and again the victim’s mother for sharing criminal responsibility with the victim’s father by allowing him to have carnal knowledge of an underage girl.
Meanwhile, Lingadzi Police Station is advising the public that the pursuit of wealth and financial success should never come at the expense of morality, ethics, and the well-being of others, especially children.
The station strongly warns that such a horrific act can have severe legal and moral consequences.The suspect (name withheld), who hails from Elias Village in the area of Traditional Authority Samala in Balaka district, will be taken to court soon to answer a case of defilement, which is contrary to Section 138 of Penal Code which attracts the maximum sentence of life imprisonment
